League One xG table 2026/27: expected goals standings
Points tables lie early in a season. A deflected winner counts the same as a 4-0, and 3 lucky results can put a club 6 places above where their performances say they should be. The xG table strips the luck out: it ranks every League One club by the quality of the chances they create against the chances they give up, and puts expected points beside the real thing. The cards show the clubs whose numbers say the most, then the full standings with the gap to the league table.
Right now. Huddersfield Town lead on +10.1 xGD, 3.4 ahead of Reading. Bradford City have 5.2 more points than their chances say (16 from 10.8 expected), the biggest overperformance in the league. Wigan Athletic are the other way round: 4 points from 9.6 expected, the biggest shortfall. Doncaster Rovers sit 14 places higher here than in the real table. Biggest climber: Plymouth Argyle, up 2 places to 6th.

What the numbers mean
An xG table replays the season on chance quality instead of goals. Every shot gets a value for how often a chance like it goes in, the values are added up for and against each club, and the difference says who has been creating more than they concede. Over a few games it is a better guide to the table's true shape than points, because goals arrive in lumps and xG does not.
Expected points takes it one step further. For each match the two xG totals are turned into the odds of a win, a draw and a defeat, and those odds become points. A club with 12 points and 8 expected points has been winning tight games; one with 8 points from 12 expected has been losing them. History says both drift back towards the expected figure.
The table rebuilds every night from the latest matches, so the gaps will open and close as the season goes on. The date on each card says when it last changed.

What is an xG table?
A league table built from chance quality instead of goals. Every shot gets a value for how often a chance like it goes in; add those up for and against each club and the difference says who has been creating more than they concede. Over a few games it is a better guide to a team's level than points.
What are expected points?
For each match the two xG totals are turned into the chances of a win, a draw and a defeat, and those chances become points. A club with more real points than expected points has been winning tight games; one with fewer has been losing them. Both tend to drift back towards the expected figure.
How often does it update?
Every night, from the latest matches. The order, the cards and the table rebuild together, and the date on each card says when the list last changed.
Reading the list
A club high on this table but low in the real one is usually a buy signal for the run of games ahead: the performances are there and the results tend to follow. The reverse is the warning sign. Expected points is the cleanest single number: compare it with real points and you have how much luck, finishing or goalkeeping has been worth so far. Every club on the list has a full FDscout team page with the xG trend match by match, the squad's Compass and the players driving the numbers.
